Whether you're looking for a beautiful spot to host the wedding of your dreams or just looking for something fun to do, the Oaklands Historic House Museum is the place for you.  Located at 900 North Maney Avenue in Murfreesboro, this historic home is one of the most elegant in all of Middle Tennessee.

The home belonged to the daughter (and her husband) of Colonel Hardee Murfree, the man after which the city of Murfreesboro is named.  Sallie Murfree Maney and Dr. James Maney constructed their 1 1/2 story, 2-room brick home in the late 18 teens, a time in which most families lived in much smaller log cabins.  The 1820's and 1830's brought a series of additions and renovations, which greatly increased the size of the home and the layout to include a parlor, dining room, children's room, guest bedroom and more.

Following Sallie Maney's death in 1857, the Oaklands Plantation was passed on to her son Lewis and his wife Rachel.  Over the course of three years, this couple made several more changes to the home, giving it a much more lavish design and bringing it to its current appearance.  The home became the grounds for a Civil War raid in 1862, which ended in a Confederate victory over a Union-occupied Murfreesboro.  The city remained in Confederate hands until several months later with a Union victory in the Battle of Murfreesboro.

In 1884, the property was sold at public auction and, after going through several different owners, was eventually purchased by the city of Murfreesboro in 1958.  After this, the home landed in the hands of the newly organized Oaklands Association, members of which restored the home and opened it to the public in the early 1960's.
